Description:
The statistics include data on institutional care in social care
and housing services for older people, people with physical or
intellectual disabilities and people with mental health problems.
The figures include clients in services provided by municipalities,
joint municipal boards and private service providers.
Data content:
The data concern providers of institutional care and housing
services in social care as well as clients and the services they
use. The data cover client identification data, age, gender,
municipality of residence, length of stay, previous and next place
of treatment, reason for entering care, need for care, and
appropriate care place.
Classifications used:
Any regional classification that is in compliance with municipal
boundaries is possible. Classifications used in the care
notification.
Data collection methods and data sources:
Patient-specific data on institutional care and housing services
with 24-hour assistance are gathered at the end of the care period.
Patient-specific data are also collected on all clients in
institutional care and housing services at the end of the year. As
for housing services with part-time assistance, data are gathered
only on clients receiving care at the end of the year. These care
notifications are compiled into the national Care Register for
Social Welfare. The data are reported by service providers.

Time of completion and release:
Preliminary data are completed in June-July, final data in
October.

The data are intended to support planning and monitoring at the
national level as well as at the level of municipalities, service
providers and provinces. The data in the Care Register are used to
describe the use of institutional care and housing services among
different groups of clients.
Products available:
THL produces statistical publications based on the Care
Registers and counts municipality-specific indicators to be
transferred to the SOTKAnet Statistics and Indicator Bank. Care
Register data (aggregate data) are available free of charge at
http://www.stakes.fi/FI/tilastot/nettihilmo/index.htm.
