Inseminations
In 2007, inseminations carried out with partner sperm totalled
3782 (82.1%) and those with donor sperm 822 (17.9%). Of all
treatment cycles, a total of 599 (13.0%) led to a pregnancy and 430
(9.3%) to a delivery with at least one live birth. The treatment
outcomes were better with donor sperm (18.1% and 13.6%) than with
partner sperm (11.9% and 8.4%). However, all treatment outcomes
showed slight improvements compared to the outcomes in 2006.
Multiple deliveries accounted for 6.3 per cent of the deliveries.
There was one triplet delivery. Of all deliveries following
insemination, 6.3 per cent were twin deliveries. The share of
multiple deliveries was smaller than in IVF, but still
significantly larger than in spontaneous pregnancies, because of
the hormones used during treatment. In total, insemination
treatments resulted in 458 births.
According to preliminary data for 2008, clinics performed 4517
treatments (-1.9%), of which 3872 (+2.4%) used partner sperm and
645 (-21.5%) donor sperm.
