Welfare and health indicators

Welfare and health indicators support local actors in planning and assessing welfare policy. Help is also provided in interpreting the indicators, which were developed within a welfare report project implemented by STAKES and three pilot municipalities.

The project aimed at producing a model welfare report and welfare indicators for local politicians and decision makers. It produced an extensive list of municipal welfare indicators that were based on national datasets, municipal data collection processes and separate research datasets. By the request of the pilot municipalities, a limited number of these indicators were selected that could be derived from the national data sources in a comparative manner.

Drawing on the life-course approach and the work done by the municipalities and experts, key indicators were developed on children and young people, working-age people and older people, as well a number of general indicators. The indicators that were considered to be of key importance for assessing welfare were selected from each group.
