Statistics and registers

National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) acts as a statistical authority in the field of social welfare and health care. Statistics are compiled concerning various topics, including social and health services, alcohol and drugs, and social and health expenditure.

Most of the information produced by the statistical groups at THL is freely available through these pages, including statistical summaries and the databases of the Care Registers for Social Welfare and Health Care.

THL is also responsible for submitting data for international social and health statistics.
The SOTKAnet indicator bank (at www.sotkanet.fi) contains extensive statistical information on the Finnish municipalities.

THL also develops concepts, classifications and terminology in medical sciences and for the service delivery system in social and health care.

The Finnish Information Centre for Register Research at THL promotes the use of Finnish registers for research purposes.

SOTKAnet offers key population welfare and health data on all Finnish municipalities.
The data are presented in numerical values, graphically and in the form of geographical maps.
