Research at STAKES
One of the key functions of STAKES is to undertake research in the field of social welfare and health care.
STAKES' statutory function is to monitor and evaluate activities and developments in social welfare and health care, to produce and acquire information and expertise at the national and international level and to make relevant information and expertise available to users.
The applied research conducted at STAKES meets high scientific standards. The research studies range from large projects to more flexible small-scale investigations addressing urgent information needs. The research projects are generally broader in scope than an individual researcher's work. Many research projects involve several researchers and a wide range of expertise. STAKES also conducts research on a commission basis.
Research and development are often closely linked: if not intertwined in the same project, they follow on from each other. Development work is often a strong element in applied research.
