Revised guidebook in English for expectant parents
The English edition of the guidebook "We're having a baby" has been revised. It is currently being distributed to prenatal clinics for their increasingly multicultural clientele. It has been edited by STAKES (or its predecessors) for 27 years.
The guidebook offers up-to-date information and practical tips about pregnancy, delivery, parenthood, baby-care, services for families with children and social security.
Expectant parents receive the guidebook from health-centre prenatal clinics. For many it has been the first and only information package on pregnancy and the care of the newborn baby with objective, reliable information for a new family.
The guidebook is updated each year. In 2006, it was revised more extensively in line with the national guidelines. In recent years the latest version has been available only in Finnish and Swedish.
The Development and Research Centre for Maternity and Child Health Care at STAKES aims to support prenatal and child health clinic clients with an immigrant background. During the autumn, two empowerment forms in English will be prepared for the clinics for helping parents. They deal with pregnancy and the everyday life of a family with children. The forms will be available on the Centre's website at: http://neuvolakeskus.stakes.fi.
